#23NewsBulletin – #JemimaKhan has revealed that she left #Netflix's hit series #TheCrown after a disagreement with the show's producers over their portrayal of #PrincessDiana. The 47-year-old was hired by the show's creator, #PeterMorgan, to help write the script for the upcoming season. The latest season will center on the feud between #Charles and #Diana from the early 1990s until her death in a car accident in Paris on August 31, 1997. When Morgan, 57, approached her for the role, she jumped at the chance because "it was really important to me that the final years of my friend's life be portrayed accurately and with compassion, which has not always happened in the past." She later dropped out of the project because Diana was not depicted as "respectfully or compassionately" as she had hoped. "In 2019, Peter Morgan asked me to co-write on the fifth series of The Crown, particularly those episodes that concerned Princess Diana's final years before she died," Ms. Khan told the Sunday Times. After much deliberation, and having never previously spoken publicly about any of this, I decided to contribute." "We worked together on the outline and scripts from September 2020 until February 2021," she added. "When our co-writing agreement was not honored, and I realized that particular storyline might not be told as respectfully or compassionately as I had hoped, I requested that all of my contributions be removed from the series, and I declined a credit." Ms. Khan had worked on storylines about Diana's relationships with heart surgeon Hasnat Khan and Egyptian film producer Dodi Fayed, as well as her shocking BBC Panorama interview with Martin Bashir, before leaving the role. "Jemima Khan has been a friend, fan, and vocal public supporter of The Crown since season one," a spokesman for the show said. "She has been part of a large network of informed and diverse sources who have provided extensive background information to our writers and research team — providing context for The Crown's drama." She has never been hired as a writer for the show." Ms. Khan is a former journalist and associate editor of the New Statesman, a weekly publication that covers current events. She was previously married to Pakistani #PrimeMinisterImranKhan, with whom she has two sons. #23News
